President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma this morning (Thursday, 11th September) got a courtesy call from the UN Ebola Response Coordinator, Dr David Nabarro at State House, Freetown.
In a brief meeting which was held behind closed doors, President Koroma said although Sierra Leone was not yet there in terms of containing the Ebola outbreak, he was happy that the international community appears to be scaling up their response to the outbreak.
Dr Nabarro expressed his admiration for the leadership provided in government’s response since his last visit to the country. “I admire your confidence and strong leadership, and I am super delighted with the way the response has come much more under tight supervision. We are here again to find out what more we can do from the inside to push the response forward,” Dr David Nabarro tells President Koroma.
Dr Nabarro was accompanied by the World Health Organisation’s Assistant Director-General for Health Security, Dr Keiji Fukunda.
The latest report from the Ministry of Health and Sanitation confirmed 1,341 infections and 436 deaths, and 284 people have been discharged.
