NOTICE TO THE PRESS
U.S. Embassy Offers Funding for Community Projects Throughout Sierra Leone
The United States Embassy is now accepting project proposals for cash grants to support small community-run projects. The Embassy provides grants through several programs, including the Ambassador’s Special Self-Help (SSH) and African Development Foundation (ADF) programs. Funding is available for projects that improve basic economic and social conditions, create employment opportunities, and assist vulnerable communities.
In 2015, the Embassy awarded more than $160,000 in grants to 20 projects throughout Sierra Leone. Community organizations are invited to submit applications at any time. Project proposals may request up to Le 150,000,000, but most recipients will receive Le 30,000,000 to 60,000,000. The process is competitive and funds are limited, so most applicants will not receive funding.
A proposal can be submitted electronically, mailed to the U.S. Embassy, or dropped off at the Embassy’s main gate. Application forms and additional information may be downloaded by visiting the Embassy’s website: http://freetown.usembassy.gov/ambshp.html. Information is also available at the Embassy’s main gate. Earlier applications will be given greater consideration, and the final deadline is June 30, 2016. For more information, please contact Mohamed Turay (tel.) +232 99 105 290 or (mobile) +232 99 905 074.
