WE REAP WHAT WE SOW : HOW TRUE ?
By Rev. Wilfred Leeroy Kabs-Kanu
We cannot sow lemon grass and expect to reap pineapples. This is what the Bible teaches. Galatians 6: 7 tells us that we should not be fooled. God cannot be mocked . Whatever we sow, that we shall reap.
If you are are respectful to people, you will reap respect and reverence from others in return . If you are disrespectful to others , that you will reap. You will get disrespect in turn. That is what we can assume from this passage. It is perfect world. Those who are good get goodness in return from others. Those who are bad get badness in return from others.
Anybody who has lived in this world for a reasonable number of years knows that a different principle works in this world. The most humble man at times is subjected to the meanest reactions from people. The most quiet and respectful person is at times the man that people take advantage of most in this world. People disrespect them highly and talk to them like they are scums. The most honest man is at times the man that suffers from slander, character -assassination, unjust blame and the criminalities , dishonesty and trickeries of other people. I have seen many rude and disrespectful persons enjoying tremendous respect instead. In fact, the world is afraid of rude and disrespectful people and bow down to them. “Aborbor nor lek cold watta”, these rude persons justify themselves , don’t they ? But should we all be rude because that is the only way to thwart other rude persons ?
Life is very unfair, to say the least. The honest and most devoted wife ends up with a husband who is unloving, promiscuous and dishonest. He even brings home AIDS to his innocent wife. The poor wife ends her life on this earth painfully and agonizingly . What seeds did she sow to deserve that ? Many women have gone mad in this world because after giving everything to make a relationship work, all they have received in return are dishonesty and treachery . Likewise some husbands.
People spend all their lives studying professions for the future but they end up jobless or with less-paying jobs and somebody without their level of education gets away with the pie. There is a huge Powerball costing millions and millions of dollars at stake. Somebody with humanitarian and giving spirit who will bless many lives prays and plays and loses. Some profligate person, selfish, a gambler, a mean-spirited and an ungodly person plays and wins it, carrying all the jackpot, and he will not even give credit to God. He will fritter the money away gambling and womanizing . Yet, he is the man who wins the power ball.
Look at the innocent people dying everyday at the hands of terrorists. Did they sow bad seeds by innocently being at the wrong place at the wrong time ? I am not talking about Florida alone. Look at the innocent kids butchered two years ago. What bad seeds did they sow ?
In this kind of world, people have complained that even people who preach the word of God cannot be trusted to say the truth when others are being abused.
And yet, the word of God says even in Hosea 8: 7 that those who sow the wind will reap the whirlwind. What wind did these people sow ? Why do wicked people, who sow the wind , prosper, if this is true ?
I believe that the word of God is true. God never lies. I believe that the problem is people. GOD’S principles still work and will always work , but the Bible itself warns us in Jeremiah 17: 9 that that the heart of man is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.
In fact, does not the Word of God warn us in 2 Timothy 3:3 that in the last days people would be unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control ( Disrespectful ) and hating those who are good ?
The Bible warns us that there will be rampant wickedness and evil in the last days. 2 Timothy 3 : 1-5 : “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. ”
If you are therefore kind, loving , and good and all you get is disrespect, badmouthing, unkindness, bitterness and meanness in return, do not give up. Be forgiving. Continue trusting God and continue being kind and loving. If you are honest with others and all you get in return are people who take advantage of you and defame, malign you and talk to you the way they like, do not give up. Continue being honest with people. God will reward you either in this world or in the next.
Do not blame God for the ungodly attitudes of people. The problem is not God. It is the heart of man. It is deceitful and desperately evil. If you are an honest and a good man and you want to give up because of the attitudes and behaviors of people, do not do so. And if the devil is tempting you to fight back and cause mayhem, do not listen to him. God wants us to bless those who curse us and to forgive those who abuse us and despitefully use us . Continue praying for and blessing those who take advantage of your meekness and humility. See Luke 6: 28.
