Youths’ frustration worsens in Sierra Leone’s very bad economy

President Bio’s Economic Policies and the Disillusionment of Sierra Leone’s Youth

By Abdul Bero Kamara ( Chief)

In recent years, the youth of Sierra Leone have found themselves grappling with a future that seems increasingly bleak, due to what has been described as President Bio’s reckless spending and rampant corruption.

The impact of these economic decisions has been particularly harsh on the younger generation, who are struggling to see a way forward in their own country.

The sentiment among many young Sierra Leoneans is one of desperation and a strong desire to seek opportunities abroad, particularly in countries like the US, Europe, Kuwait, and Turkey. The allure of greener pastures in these foreign lands has become a beacon of hope for many, as the prospects at home continue to dwindle. It is a situation that has led to a mass exodus of young talent, with even college graduates feeling compelled to leave Sierra Leone in search of better opportunities.

President Bio had promised to prioritize job creation for the youth during his campaign five years ago, but unfortunately, this pledge has not materialized. The lack of viable employment options has left many young people disillusioned and, pushing them towards coping mechanisms such as substance abuse and engaging in negative social behaviours.

The failure to deliver on promises of economic prosperity and employment opportunities has not only eroded the trust in the current administration but has also deepened the sense of hopelessness among the youth of Sierra Leone. The consequences of this disillusionment are far-reaching, impacting not only the present but also shaping the future trajectory of the country.

Furthermore, the lack of job creation and high unemployment rates among the youth have also been attributed to the president’s economic policies. President Bio’s policies have failed to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, resulting in limited job opportunities for young graduates. This has led to frustration and disillusionment among the youth, as they find themselves trapped in a cycle of unemployment and underemployment.

Moreover, the education sector has also been adversely affected by President Bio’s economic policies. inadequate investment in education has resulted in a decline in the quality of education, limiting the opportunities available to young people. The lack of access to quality education and skills development programs further hampers the ability of the youth to compete in the job market and contribute to the country’s economic growth.

Additionally, the lack of investment in infrastructure development has hindered the potential for economic growth and job creation. Without proper infrastructure, young entrepreneurs and businesses face numerous challenges in accessing markets, transporting goods, and conducting business efficiently. This lack of investment has further limited the opportunities available to the youth, stifling their potential to contribute to the country’s economic development.

It is worth noting that President Bio’s government has failed to Invest in education, job creation, and social programs that empower the youth, which would have
help steer the country towards a more promising future, where young Sierra Leoneans feel valued and hopeful within their borders.

Until then, stay tuned :
