Parliament approves nine more appointees

PARLIAMENT AGAIN APPROVES NINE (9) PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEES

07th April, 2016: Following a marathon debate by both sides of the political divide, the Parliament of Sierra Leone has on Thursday 07th April, 2016 ratified another set of nine (9) presidential nominees to serve in various capacities to enhance the running of the State.

The Leader of the House, Hon. Ibrahim Bundu also commended the public for their inputs in the vetting process, prior to the interview of the respective presidential nominees.

The following Presidential nominees were approved by the House through a collection of voices:

I. Hon. Mohamed Alieu Jalloh-Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation
II. Mr. Mohamed Bangura-Minister of Information and Communications
III. Ms. Elizabeth Mans-Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources
IV. Mr. Ady Macauley-Commissioner, Anti-Corruption Commission
V. Mrs. Zuliatu M. Cooper-Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation
VI. Mr. Ahkmad Femi Mansaray-Deputy Minister of Political and Public Affairs
VII. Mr. James Morlai Kamara-Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Technology
VIII. Mr. Cornelius Deveaux-Deputy Minister of Information and Communications and
IX. Mr. Adrain Dixon Bellah Fofanah-Deputy Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs

Most of the MPs who participated in the deliberations commended President Koroma for his foresight and wisdom by nominating competent Sierra Leoneans to serve in high offices of State, particularly young people and women of substance. However, MPs cautioned the nominees not to engage in a battle of supremacy, but rather be innovative problem solvers in their respective have come out en masse to support their ratification. Therefore, they said “failure is not an option, but concrete delivery hinging on the development of the country”.

In rounding the debate, the Minority Leader of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Bernadette Lahai briefly said that “after the ratification of the nominees and oath taken as contained in the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, they would take their respective offices” whilst urging them to serve their God and country diligently. She ended by saying that “in life if you do not stand for something, then you have nothing” whilst wishing them good luck”.

In his conclusion, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Ibrahim Bundu recognized the mammoth groups of supporters from all walks of life present both in and out of the House for the ratification of the nominees, whilst wishing them “well in their respective endeavours and best of luck”.
