𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗞𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗟𝗮𝘄𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮–𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, has cautioned members of the Legislature against making public statements that could escalate tensions regarding the situation at the Liberia–Guinea border.

Speaking during leadership Monday, the Speaker emphasized that as public officials, lawmakers bear a responsibility to provide measured, accurate, and reassuring leadership, particularly on matters concerning national security.

“Our citizens depend on our leadership. We must avoid speaking on issues for which we do not have sufficient information, especially when such matters relate to national security,” Speaker Koon stated.

He warned that unguarded public utterances on the border situation have the potential to create unnecessary fear and anxiety among citizens, urging his colleagues to exercise restraint and responsibility in their public engagements.

Speaker Koon noted that while the Government of Liberia continues to pursue diplomatic channels to resolve the situation, it is important that members of the Legislature support these efforts by refraining from comments that could undermine peace or heighten tensions.

The Speaker further disclosed that members of the Legislature recently undertook a visit to the border over the weekend, where they engaged with local leaders and security personnel to assess the situation firsthand.

Based on the interactions and information gathered, Speaker Koon expressed confidence that the issue will be peacefully resolved, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to maintaining stability and protecting the interests of the Liberian people.

He concluded by urging all lawmakers to remain calm, responsible, and united in their messaging, especially during periods of heightened national concern.
