SLCU CLINCHES BEST SIERRA LEONEAN DIASPORA ORGANIZATION AWARD

The Sierra Leone Central Union (SLCU) in the Netherlands has on the 2nd April 2016 awarded as
the best Sierra Leonean Diaspora Organization of the year in the just concluded AWOL
continental Europe Annual Achievement Award ceremony.

The AWOL continental award ceremony which attracted Sierra Leoneans from different part of
the world was held in a colourful and impressive event at Eindhoven in Holland.
In receiving the award, the Chairman of the Sierra Leone Central Union Abubakarr Bangura said
the award is not a surprise to them, adding that they have worked assiduously over the years.
The award he said reaffirms their leading role in mobilizing Diaspora support for their home
country Sierra Leone, ensuring a well organized and relatively peaceful Sierra Leonean
community in The Netherlands and the completion of a first class vocational institute in Sierra
Leone are concrete and visible outcomes of their collective endeavours.
‘’ I am dedicating this award to the result oriented membership of the Sierra Leone Central
Union in the Netherlands and allies across Europe and also to the founding father of SLCU’’,
said Abubakarr Bangura.
The Director Office of Diaspora Affairs (ODA), Mr. Kallay Musa Conteh has commended SLCU for
receiving what he described as a meritorious award. He said SLCU which has signed and MoU
with ODA last year for leveraging Diaspora resources towards national development has been
working accordingly towards such direction. He further appealed to other Sierra Leonean
Diaspora Organizations to replicate the good work of SLCU in giving back to their home country.

The Sierra Leone Central Union in The Netherlands is a platform organization of 14 Sierra
Leonean organizations, representing more than 2,000 Sierra Leoneans in The Netherlands. The
organization is the leading platform organization for Sierra Leoneans in Mainland Europe. SLCU
members have been very supportive to their home country Sierra Leone; ranging from the
donation of solar lights, bags of rice, used clothes to Ebola and flood affected communities in
Freetown to the construction of an Agribusiness institute at Wasaya Lungi Community in Sierra
Leone.
