APC HEAD FOR LANDSLIDE VICTORY IN TELL-ALL KOINADUGU BYE-ELECTIONS
BY Kabs Kanu
The opposition All People’s Congress ( APC ) ,who are gunning for a dramatic return to power in 2023, have won the much-talked-about and hotly-contested Koinadugu Council Bye-elections on a landslide , according to provisional results from the polling stations.
The APC are also expected to win the councilor bye-elections also held in the same district yesterday ,since the same people voted in both bye_elections-
According to votes tallied at the polling stations, the result in the Chairmanship elections as at now read :
INTERIM RESULTS:
APC: 5528 70.87%.
SLPP:1964 25.18%.
The elections are for the chairmanship of the Koinadugu District Council, but with both rival parties APC and SLPP considering the bye -elections so important because it will tell how they stand for the forthcoming 2023 presidential elections , the stakes have been very high with the two parties sending out thousands of supporters to campaign in the district during the week.
There have also been reports of clashes between supporters and acts of intimidation by the Police, who were accused of firing live ammunition to intimidate opposition supporters.
If the results hold, it will be a major defeat for the ruling SLPP who have been bragging that they have seized the APC stronghold from them. If the APC had lost this election in one of their biggest strongholds, prospects of winning the 2023 elections would have been dim.
COCORIOKO will bring you more details from reports sent by our men on the ground.
