The drama of accountability and transparency is about to be played fully in Sierra Leone as former ministers and public officials in the past Sierra Leone People’s Party ( SLPP) government are about to be throughly investigated for alleged corruption and economic sabotage against the people of Sierra Leone.
COCORIOKO has learnt that many of Sierra Leone’s ministers and public functionaries under the government of President Alhaji Ahmad Tejan Kabbah have been implicated in high-level corruption and graft from a government audit report and President Ernest Koroma, who came to power in Sierra Leone this year riding a well-applauded tidal wave of promises to pursue a policy of ZERO-TOLERANCE to corruption , has asked the Anti-Corruption Commission to probe the report. President Koroma’s order emanated from a submission of the Presidential Transmission Team’s report on the status of ministries and departments .The report, which implicated many ministers and public officials, was submitted by the head of the Transmission Team, Vice-President Sam Sumana, to President Koroma , at State House. President Koroma , while assuring all that his government will not interfere into the work of the Anti-Corruption Commission, however vowed that his government , by ordering the ACC to probe the Transition Team ‘s report , will be sending a strong message to the world that his government will not tolerate corruption. The President said the transition process has served as a test case for transparency and accountability in Sierra Leone. The President disclosed that while he was in Uganda, certain African and world leaders commended him for the transition process that was carried out in Sierra Leone . He said that if there was need for an independent auditing firm to be hired to further look into the transition report, he would do so. The President has said that he will hand over the report to the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission , Mr. Abdul Tejan-Cole for the appropriate action . Sierra Leoneans were very delighted with the new development yesterday as they had been advocating for corrupt members of the Kabbah government to be brought to justice.
