SLPP More Time Agenda Boomerang
Public Relations Officer of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Moses Mambu, has tested the waters during a media broadcast, suggesting that the next general election could be held either in 2028 or 2030, while buttressing his claims with references to former President Ernest Bai Koroma and alleged extensions of tenure.

Opposing the views of the SLPP PRO, APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary Mohamed Pope Kamara has vowed that the APC will resist any attempt by the SLPP to extend its tenure to 2030. He described Mambu’s statement as “testing the waters” and warned that, if not checked, such pronouncements could have the potential to send the country into pandemonium.
However, shortly afterwards, SLPP National Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa reportedly stated otherwise, maintaining that the next general election will be held as scheduled in November 2028.
“The General Election will go ahead as scheduled in November 2028. As a party, we are not going to change the electoral calendar,” Global Times Newspaper quoted the SLPP Chairman as saying.
The contrasting statements have sparked renewed debate over the timing of the next election and the SLPP’s position on the 2028 electoral calendar.
