Ambassador Shekou Touray holds talks with Chinaโ€™s Permanent Representative

The Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the United Nations, Ambassador Shekou M.Touray today held talks with Chinaโ€™s Permanent Representative , Ambassador Li Baodong at theย  Permanent Mission of China to the UN in New York.

The Chinese Ambassador , in welcomingย  Mr. Touray, expessed thanks and appreciation to his Sierra Leonean counterpart for the visit and he lauded the African Union Committee of Ten (C-10) , which is chaired by Ambassador Touray, for the outstanding role it is playing in promoting the African Common Position, strengthening the solidarity of the African group and working with other memberย states and organizations.

Responding, Ambassador Touray also thanked the Chinese Permanent Representative for the warm welcome accorded him and the member of his delegation . He noted that the last Summit of the African Union in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea gave full force to the the Ezulwini Consensus as the key to the African Common Position in the Security Council Reform negotiations .

In addition to the Security Council Reform, the ย two Ambassadorsย  also discussed others matters of mutual interest to their two countries , including the candidacy of Sierra Leonean -born legal luminaryย Mr. Abdul G. Koromaย , who is seeking another term as Judge of the International Court of Justice ( ICJ) and the forthcoming United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Sierra Leone (UNIPSIL ) Review Meetingย  at the UN during which Sierra Leone would be seeking an extension of the Missionโ€™s mandate in the country .

Ambassador Touray was accompanied to the Chinese Mission by the Minister Plenipotentiary, Mr. Leeroy Wilfred Kabs-Kanu.
