BREAKING NEWS : Sea accident in Sierra Leone : Deaths reported

THE BONTHE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASED THE FOLLOWING REPORT HOURS AFTER THE ACCIDENT

Accident at Sea

On Monday, 01/08/2022 a passenger boat named ” ENEMY SHAME ” (with no manifest) heading for Mattru Jong collided with another boat named ” WASA BILA kNGWOH ” (with only crew members on board) coming from the opposite direction, in a curve around Mosembo village, near Mattru Jong. Five (5) people are reported to have drowned, with three (3) bodies discovered.

Security Situation
Nevertheless, the general security situation in the Division remains to be relatively calm and quiet with little or no potential security threat at this time of reporting.

 The Chairman of the Boat Owners’ Association at the Ferry Terminal has said that the accident that is reported to have occurred did not take place either at the Kissy Terminal in Freetown or at the Targrin Ferry Terminal in Lungi. Chairman Marabu informed us that the boat is believed to have left the Portee Axis in Freetown and that a Trawler is said to be aiding with the possible rescue mission. Earlier, the Information Officer at the Bonthe Police Division, Mr. Swaray said that five persons are reported to have drowned and that the said boat was headed for Mattru Jong. Another report says most of the commuters did not put on life jackets and that their names were also not recorded on any manifest.
