Fatima Bio Orders Arrest of the Freetown Mayor’s Councillor at Airport En Route to New York

Last night, First Lady Fatima Jabbe Bio ordered the arrest and detention of the Freetown Mayor’s Councillor at the Lungi International Airport in Freetown.
It was autocracy and misuse of power at its best in Sierra Leone. Suddenly, an innocent man was nabbed by Immigration Officers for no justifiable reason. The dubious arrest of Councillor Sheku Turay ala ICE T, left the Freetown City Council FCC Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr incensed. ICE T was apprehended a few minutes before boarding his flight to New York last night. He was supposed to travel with his boss the Freetown Mayor Aki-Sawyer to New York to attend the Bill & Milinda Gates Goalkeepers Event this week. The Freetown Mayor has been invited to speak at the historic event. But it was a shocking incident at Lungi Airport when ‘Orders from Above’ instructed the arrest of Councillor Sheku Turay under mysterious circumstances. The Freetown Mayor Aki-Sawyerr was understandably upset at the arbitrary arrest of her City Council colleague at the airport. It is believed that he was arrested without a warrant, according to the law. “What kind of democracy do we have in Sierra Leone? This is very bad for our country. They said IC T was arrested because of the August 10, 2022 demonstration. ICE T never participated in that protest,” Mayor Aki-Sawyerr blasted. High-placed sources say the sudden arrest of Mr Sheku Turay was engineered by the First Lady Fatima Jabbe Bio aka ‘Mob Justice’. The incident happened because Fatima Jabbe Bio and SLPP officials want to embarrass the Freetown Mayor because of selfish and ulterior motives. Sierra Leoneans are well aware of the unnecessary troubles facing the Freetown Mayor thanks to the high-level machination of the corrupt SLPP government officials who are determined to undermine and belittle a hardworking and honest public servant like Mayor Aki-Sawyerr. Being an officer of the main opposition APC party has made things worse for Mayor Aki-Sawyerr as the ruling SLPP regime does not want anything good for the respected Freetown Mayor, let alone the APC party. “But God is always on Mayor Aki-Sawyerr’s side,” her admirers say. Last year, she was invited by President Joe Biden to attend a Democracy Summit with other world leaders in the US and it happened without President Julius Maada Bio.
The jealousy worsened after that historic US invitation. Mayor Aki-Sawyerr made Sierra Leoneans proud when she bravely highlighted the undemocratic governance in Sierra Leone during her address. That US invitation and her frankness about human rights abuses and corruption back home annoyed the Bio presidency so much that they started formulating ridiculous corruption allegations against the Mayor all geared toward discrediting her reputation. However, the people of Sierra Leone continue to revere Aki-Sawyerr for her devotion to national duties even though the callous SLPP agents are still envious of her national and international success. It is no surprise that the SLPP government agents stopped ICE T from travelling with the Mayor by arresting him last night.
The Freetown City Council Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr left for New York without her colleague, unfortunately. In a press statement, the FCC informed the public that the Mayor has been invited to speak at the Bill & Milinda Gates Goalkeepers event in New York this week. Mayor Aki-Sawyerr noted: “I am honoured to have been invited by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to speak at Goalkeepers 2022 in New York next week. As the 2030 deadline for the Sustainable Development Goals approaches, I will speak on the “Power of Community and Collaboration” in respect of the implementation of the Global Goals. I will also be speaking at various other Climate Change focused events hosted by Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Adrienne Arsht Rockefeller Foundation, and the Clinton Foundation.
“I will use these opportunities to share Freetown’s experiences, achievements, and challenges as we seek to find innovative solutions to the impacts of Climate Change in our city. The hosting organisations have supported us in various ways in our journey to address Climate Change and to #TransformFreetown with projects such as #FreetownTheTreeTown, the Wilberforce Market construction, and the 3 Market Shade Cover project.
