Guinea coup succeeds : Col. Mamady Doumbuya siddon nar power mah.

(Ecofin Agency) – After more than three weeks spent at the head of Guinea, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya wants to comply with the new Transition Charter. He will be officially invested as president by the Guinean Supreme Court on Friday.

The head of the military junta in Guinea, Mamady Doumbouya (pictured), will lend oath on Friday 1 st of October. The announcement was made on the evening of Wednesday September 29 on national television.

The military took power on September 5, after deposing President Alpha Condé, who had just been re-elected for a third term. The country’s new strongman now wants to formalize his status as president, in accordance with the Transition Charter made public on Monday, September 27.

The purpose of this charter is to outline the contours of the Transition, both from a legal and organizational standpoint. It replaces the country’s constitution which was dissolved. This convention will be managed by four bodies which are the National Committee for Assembly and Development (CNRD) headed by Colonel Doumbouya, the presidency, for which he will be responsible, the government which will be led by a Prime Minister, and the National Council. of Transition (CNT), whose members will play the role of parliamentarians.

The institutional reforms that will be implemented through this legislation and the preparation of a new fundamental law of the country will give rise, in the medium term, to “free and transparent elections”.

As a reminder, this charter was put in place by the CNRD, after a series of consultations with all the forces of the nation. Members of the deposed government and heads of institutions were automatically banned from this transition process.
