Guinean opposition leader arrested by junta on the Sierra Leone border

Guinean Opposition Leader Aliou Bah Arrested

Aliou Bah, the leader of Guinea’s 🇬🇳 Liberal Democratic Movement (MoDel), was arrested on Thursday while traveling to Sierra Leone. He is accused of insulting the head of the military government, which has been in power since 2021.

Bah’s lawyer called the arrest unfair, saying he is being punished for speaking out about issues like kidnappings and disappearances in the country. Human rights groups have also criticized his arrest.

This is part of a larger crackdown by Guinea’s military leaders, who have arrested or silenced many opposition figures since taking power in 2021.
