Mental backwardness, mental insufficiency and idol-worshipping of derelict politicians still prevalent in Sierra Leone 60 years after Independence

MENTAL BACKWARDNESS , MENTAL INSUFFICIENCY AND IDOL-WORSHIPPING OF DERELICT POLITICIANS STILL PREVALENT IN SIERRA LEONE AFTER 60 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE

By Kabs Kanu

It is a measure of the backward mentality of even some of our so-called intellectuals. the mental deficiency of our sycophantic and idol-worshipping youths and the mental retardation of our president that we will steal credit from footballers.

60 years of Independence has done nothing to shape our mentality in Sierra Leone . We are still the unsophisticated natives that the colonial masters sought to civilize. The way we worship politicians who do nothing for us show the depth of our mental retardation.

In AMERICA, people are so humble that even when they save lives, they shun every attempt to be hailed as heroes on media. They say they were just doing what they were supposed to have done. Butwe are so lacking in character , humility and integrity in Sierra Leone.. Everything is partisan politics, tribe, region or ethnicity. We have never grown beyond our primordial, proclivities. Our tendency to worship politicians is heartening.

President Bio is not the architect of Sierra Leone’s qualification for the Africa Nations Cup. He did nothing for the team. While our footballers were languishing at the Guinea border, refused entry by the immigration authorities for not having their Covid results and sleeping under mango trees, where was President Bio ? If he was motivating the players, why was it that they left Freetown for AGuinea to play such a big and crucial match without their Covid results when we all know the universal protocols in place ?

The players were stranded at the border for over !2 hours , hungry, stressed and displaced and President Bio did nothing to intervene through normal diplomatic channels to alleviate their problems.

Imagine. This heartlessly and irredeemably corrupt government appropriated and disbursed to its corrupt officials half a million dollars for the match. Yet the players did not enjoy the luxury of air travel and had to be cramped in buses for the 200 mile journey only to be intercepted and delayed for over !2 hours at the border for having no Covid test results. So where was the motivation that helped the players win the game ? In fact, because of the ordeal the SLPP Government put them through If our players were not resilient, they would have lost the game.

Youths and other citizens should now begin to get away from idol-worshipping of our good-for-nothing politicians.

Maada Bio does not deserve the praises he is apportioning himself for Leone Stars’ victory. Our qualification for the Africa Nations Cup should be credited to Coach John Keister and the players . They did a magnificent job .
