Over 60 years after Independence in Sierra Leone : State failure, poor service delivery , needless waste and flamboyant speeches

Years from now when schools and colleges will be studying history, government and economics, they will look back at this period in Sierra Leone and see a lot of hallmarks of a failed state.

Over 60 years after Independence, Sierra Leone as a state has failed in providing reliable electricity. This is so despite huge cost of the commodity. Sierra Leone is perhaps seeing the worse blackout since the era of Kabba Tiger [Pre 2007].

Over 60 years of Independence, the state has failed to provide clean water for most of its citizens. This is so despite the enormous water bodies that run through and around the country and the volume of rainfall every year.

The State is spending more money in creating new govt departments, Ministries and buying SUVs and expensive furniture to stock them.

The state is spending more money on travel, per diem and more.

Our government is presiding over a cost of living crisis, drug crisis and God knows how many more crisis.

Take home pay is not enough to take you home anymore. But in the middle of all this, the President and government can make time for some flamboyant speech and image laundering abroad.

These are some of the hallmarks of State Failure. Note them
