President Koroma gives assurance that Government cares for the youths

Representatives of the National Union of All People’s Congress Students (NUAS) drawn from twenty-one tertiary institutions led by the Presidential Youth Aide, who also doubles as President of the APC National Youth League, Bai Mamoud Bangura on Friday 4th July paid a courtesy call on the Leader and Chairman of the ruling party, His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma at State House.

NUAS used the visit to present the winner and the runner-up of the national quiz competition, fondly known as Brains of APC.

Addressing the NUAS executive, President Koroma underscored the importance of coming together from different tertiary institutions and working as a unit for which he commended them for such a great step and assured them that even when members and stalwarts shall have stepped aside the party will continue to go forward.

He said as a party and a government we are concerned about our youth especially now that NUAS is responding to vital national issues as the projects that they are about to undertake will not only benefit APC youth but young people across the country.

President Koroma assured NUAS of every support that is required in addressing youth empowerment and commended the union for undertaking sensitization on the deadly Ebola outbreak, which he said cannot only be the responsibility of medical practitioners.

He encouraged NUAS to extend adult classes for folks as part of the union’s summer school programmes by way of facilitating their transactions, enable them register and sign their names as well as documents as and when necessary.

This, according to the Chairman and Leader of the APC, will enhance a lot of things and therefore entreated NUAS to continue to engage more secondary school students to ensure that young people remain focused.

President Koroma told the NUAS executive to continue committing itself to the core values of the APC and give hope to every citizen of the country through continuous development and positive engagements.

NUAS President Mohamed Thorlie alias Professor said education is paramount to the union which is why the union placed high premium on education hence called for empowerment of APC students through local and international scholarship programmes.

Mr. Thorlie pleaded with President Koroma for job opportunities for graduates which he said is a grave concern to the union and commended the APC National Secretary General, Ambassador Alhaji Osman F. Yansanneh and other party members who had been working in closed collaboration with the union.

He commended the incumbent executive of the APC National Youth League and presented the project proposal to the Chairman and Leader.

NUAS Public Relations Officer, Mohamed Khan said that they were in the Office of the President to keep him abreast with happenings in the union.

He said that they have registered an organization called YUNTA in all tertiary institutions for youth career development and health awareness as they have a project proposal for the cleaning of all health centers in the country.

He said that the organization is set to serve as a transition point to members of the union, adding that they also want to take part in the census sensitization and the constitutional review process through interfacing with young people countrywide.

He said they were able to organize summer school classes last August through the help of the Youth League President and the Attorney General and Minister of Justice.
