Sierra Leone’s President, H.E Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma who led a five-man delegation on a two-day official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt early this week has left the Egyptian capital, Cairo, Wednesday, June 29, 2016.
Senior Egyptian Government officials and officials from the Sierra Leone Embassy in Riyadh accredited to Egypt were seen in their suits, waving goodbye to the President’s plane as it taxied from the Presidential Terminal to the runway before taking off Wednesday morning with President Koroma and his delegation.
The President’s delegation to Cairo included; Foreign and International Cooperation Minister, Dr. Samura M. Kamara, Sierra Leone’s Envoy to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Ambassador Osman Keh Kamara, among others.
As Coordinator of the African Union Committee of Ten Heads of State and Government on the Reform of the United Nations Security Council, President Koroma held consultations with his brother and colleague, H.E Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on the United Nations (UN) reforms.
Presidential Spokesman, Abdulai Bayratay says the visit was very successful. The two Heads of State also held fruitful discussions on a broad range of issues bordering on bilateral and multilateral cooperation at the Ittihadiya Presidential Palace, Bayraytay told me at the Presidential Lounge of the Cairo International Airport shortly before they left.
He further says they focused on cooperation in health, education, maritime resources as well as security issues.
President Koroma has proceeded to Harare, Zimbabwe to elicit views of his counterpart on the ongoing UN Security Council reform dialogue going forward into the 11th year of the campaign.
The C-10 comprises Heads of State from Sierra Leone, Senegal, Namibia, Congo Brazzaville, Libya, Kenya, Zambia, Uganda, Algeria and Equatorial Guinea.
According to the newly appointed Presidential Spokesman, the meetings are to further consult on the way forward in the pursuit of the Common African Position on the UN reform and with a view to ensuring that Africa continues to speak with one voice and to secure two permanent seats and a total of no less than five non-Permanent seats in the Security Council of the UN.
