The SLPP knows very well the key role of former British High Commissioner Guy Warrington in the last elections. As 2023 draws near, the Paopa government is now jittery about the regime change broom sweeping them away as the relationship with Britain sinks to a new low.
The Nacoverc spokesman, Solomon Jamiru, has publicly condemned Britainโs action of putting Sierra Leone on a travel red light due to covid 19 is arbitrary. He called it โThe July 19 game of horrorโ, while stating that โWe are inconceivably perplexed by judgements that are arbitrarily imposed.โ This has been seen as a big diplomatic blunder within the international community, especially coming from a man who just recently was Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation. โThey should have officially sought reasons through the diplomatic route,โ a European diplomatic source stated.
There is no love lost between Britain and the SLPP Government at the moment, amidst President Bioโs unabashed foreign policy tilt towards China, Russia and Lebanon.
The incoming British High Commissioner, Ms Lisa Chesney MBE, has as part of her major mandate โensuring that the 2022 local council elections and the 2023 presidential and parliamentary elections are conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner,โ a British High Commission source stated.
