RETIRED PEACE CORPS, GARY SCHULZE, who has fought tirelessly and used fortunes of his own money to buy historical Sierra Leone photos , is very disappointed. He sent COCORIOKO a copy of this report by the AWOKO Newspaper, in which he bemoaned the use of the fake picture of the iconic Sierra Leonean warrior, Bai Bureh, by the government on new national currencies.
We find the government’s action hard to understand when Mr. Schulze, who has a special passion for Sierra Leone, had gone out of his way ,spending heavily not only to buy the real Bai Bureh photo on ebay , but to present copies to various officials of the past two governments and to give the photo extensive publicity in the country and on social media.
It would have made a big difference and even demonstrated appreciation for Mr. Schulze’s efforts if the real photo had been used on the new Leone notes by the Bank of Sierra Leone. Gary’s disappointment is understood.
All Mr. Schulze wants is for accurate historical records , artefacts and photos.
We hope the government will find a way to correct the error.
