The bitter and acrimonious rivalry between the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party ( SLPP ) and the opposition All People’s Congress ( APC ) is being played out in Kabala, Koinadugu, Northern Region—The stronghold of the APC – where both parties will be slugging it out on Saturday in district council elections for the chairman’s seat .
The SLPP candidate is Alhaji Sheku Koroma while the APC candidate is Lawrence Tetteh Kargbo.
With every election in Sierra Leone, whether bye-election, General or for national or council seats now a life and death affair , involving a show of everything and at times even force, the Koinadugu council elections have transfixed the country during the week as both parties have been campaigning vigorously in the district for their respective candidates.
it is one of the most important council elections, given the fact that Koinadugu has from time immemorial been a very heavy APC stronghold , which the party would like to hold to prove their supremacy to their rivals while the SLPP ,which has become an overaggressive political party still wanting to demonstrate their ascendancy, even while in power , would delight in proving to the APC that they have penetrated their stronghold.
Wednesday was the final rally for the ruling SLPP and there was a massive turnout of supporters so much so that party propagandists were bragging that the SLPP had broken the barriers and seized the APC stronghold from them. It is with great excitement our platform is making this declaration that all what we initially projected for the koinadugu race ,has come to fruition. Projections that told told us that the slpp will secure 10’s of towns and villages. Projections that told us that the apc will struggle to hold back slpp gains. Projections that told us that the slpp will overrun these towns unchallenged and Projections that told us the slpp will make its way in kabala town in a grand style.
As of today, there is now a clarity that the stages and layers of slpp planning has worked. A planning and execution that is so precisioned. And an execution that took the apc completely off guard.
Shocked out if their complacencies, APC planners are now looking at this and telling themselves that they have lost the initiative. A lost initiative that has the potential to spill over into the general elections and deny them the presidency. Regardless of who wins this race on Saturday, these scenes are showing that someone has entered a perceived apc stronghold and competing with them for votes.A stronghold they will need almost a 100% vote from as part of their grand voting coalition ,if they are to engage the slpp in the next general elections. But here we here. Apc taking one step forward and two steps backwards.
The SLPP has entered kabala town from different entry points with thousands of supporters in a caravan style and also welcomed by thousands in kabala town.
Despite a national APC propaganda structure, the SLPP is still holding its ground because of the massive social programs it has launched since 2018.
Sierra Leoneans are gradually coming to the realization that the government’s focus on human capital development will not only uplift a country, but will also catapult development into interms of individualism. Sierra Leoneans across the board have mastered the rudiments of governance and nation building. They now have the ability to know if a government is working towards their interests or not.There is a national appreciation for what the president has done and trying to do.The country has seen exactly where the president is heading. They know he is a visionary president and his goals are long term.
Koinadugu has finally slipped away from the category of districts considered as apc stronghold.
Propaganda has not worked.
Playing the tribal card has neither not worked.
The slpp and its ideals continue to appeal to the people of koinadugu.
Meanwhile ,there are reports that mrs manteneh jj saffa has engaged apc elements in the town of fadugu. Developments on that front will be communicated.

Yesterday was the APC’s turn to hold their final rally and if crowds that turn out determine the outcome of elections, the SLPP projection that they have captured Kabala may have been too optimistic. The crowds drawn by the APC were just too marvelous and indescribable, with bigwigs of the party traveling from Freetown and other parts of the country to provide tremendous boost to the campaign.
APC social media propagandists sent the following snippets of information.
Mayor of Freetown Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr joined comrades to grace the final rally of APC in Kabala town ahead of the local council bye-election chairperson.
She also gave support to the campaign team as part of her own contribution to the Koinadugu District Executive and Comrade Lawrence Teteh Kargbo ahead of the local council bye-election which will commence on Saturday 2nd October 2021.

Dr. Samura whose participation in today’s campaign created a lot of difference as residents of the district were overwhelmed and unable to restrain their selves and the anxiety to join the mammoth crowd of supporters and voters in demonstrating their unflinching support for the party and also Lawrence Tetteh Kargbo the APC candidate for the race.
Dr. Samura who was very active and vocal made a short stop at Fadugu town to address the plethora of party supporters that were eagerly waiting for his arrival.
