The self- styled Father of Democracy has fired a female journalist for a post on TikTok

*_The so-called father of democracy has sacked a female journalist working at SLBC Makeni_*

I want to bring this to the attention of foreign diplomats present during the town hall concert, The American embassy, the Bar association, SLAJ, Civil society organizations, Center for democracy and human rights etc that Sierra Leone’s purported father of democracy, president Julius Maada Bio has sacked a female journalist working at SLBC Makeni for sharing on her TikTok page a video of the lady asking questions about president Bio’s readiness to tackle bread and butter issues in his remaining years in governance during the town hall concert.

The public could recall that after a lady asked a question that president Bio’s stooges found embarrassing, in his response president Bio calmly responded to the lady’s question as if nothing was wrong. in fact he scolded those who were intimidating the young lady and he strongly warned against such an attitude but little was known that the president’s action was a subtle way of presenting himself as a feminist before international diplomats and to avoid being seen as a leader that muzzles free speech.
The president’s action to instantly sack a female journalist exposed the bitterness he had against asking him a question that everyone was expecting in front of diplomats.

what is more shocking is that, the victim, Umu Thoronka who is a holder of HTC Secondary and a degree in Mass communication from UNIMAK has been working for SLBC for more than 10 years without salary. she only survived on incentives but that doesn’t deter her from giving her all to the work because of the love she has for this country.

A president brags of empowering women is now seen as the one that unceremoniously sacks them. this action has instinct fear in women and it is seen as an indirect way of trampling on free speech.
