UN Secretary Gen. Ban Ki-Moon visits Sierra Leone on March 4

 

UN SECRETARY GENERAL MEETS WITH SPANISH PRESIDENTPRESS RELEASE

THE GENERAL PUBLIC IS HEREBY INFORMED THAT AT THE INVITATION OF THE GOVERNMENT OF SIERRA LEONE, THE UNITED NATIONS SECRETARY-GENERAL BAN KI-MOON WILL VISIT SIERRA LEONE FROM 4TH – 6TH MARCH 2014. THE UN SECRETARY-GENERAL WILL ATTEND A CEREMONY TO CLOSE THE UNITED NATIONS INTEGRATED PEACEBUILDING OFFICE IN SIERRA LEONE (UNIPSIL) AFTER FIFTEEN YEARS OF SUCCESSIVE UN PEACE OPERATIONS, AND MARK THE TRANSITION TO A DEVELOPMENT FOCUSED UNITED NATIONS PRESENCE. PURSUANT TO UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION 2097, UNIPSIL WILL BE CLOSING ON 31ST MARCH 2014.

DURING HIS SECOND OFFICIAL VISIT TO SIERRA LEONE, SECRETARY-GENERAL BAN KI-MOON WILL MEET WITH PRESIDENT DR. ERNEST BAI KOROMA, THE MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION DR. SAMURA KAMARA, THE DIPLOMATIC COMMUNITY, REPRESENTATIVES OF POLITICAL PARTIES, CIVIL SOCIETY AND OTHER NATIONAL STAKEHOLDERS AS WELL AS THE UN FAMILY IN THE COUNTRY.
