U.S Says 374 West African Nationals Face Deportation; Nigerians Largest Group
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has published what it described as an updated list of 374 West African nationals facing deportation, with Nigerians accounting for the largest share, according to media reports.
The reported breakdown lists 124 Nigerians, 94 Liberians and 32 Ghanaians, followed by Sierra Leone (26), Cape Verde (23), Senegal (19), Côte d’Ivoire (14), The Gambia (14), Mauritania (12), Burkina Faso (9), Niger (8), Guinea (6), Togo (6), Mali (5), and one national each from Benin and Guinea-Bissau.
The reports said the individuals were included under a DHS initiative referred to as “Worst of the Worst,” which is said to target people with final deportation orders or serious immigration or criminal violations. DHS has not publicly released individual case details explaining why each person was included.
The reported list could not be independently verified, and Reuters has not confirmed the authenticity of the figures or whether an official DHS publication matching the reports exists.
