While the First Lady of Sierra Leone, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, parades herself as a symbol of peace, unity, and religious tolerance, the truth known by the people tells a far darker story , one of deceit, hypocrisy, and silent brutality.
This public display of “interfaith harmony” at the Presidential Lodge during Eid al-Adha is nothing more than a well-rehearsed performance. It’s a photo opportunity designed to polish a crumbling image, not a genuine act of leadership or humility. Fatima Bio may gather Muslims and Christians together, but the blood of innocent Sierra Leoneans cries louder than any words spoken during her feasts or festivals.
Where was peace when unarmed civilians were gunned down in Makeni? In Tombo? In Lunsar? During the August 10 massacre? Where was tolerance when voices of dissent were silenced, activists jailed, opposition members harassed, and institutions politicised?
Fatima, as a wife, a First Lady, and someone who claims moral authority, you had the influence, and perhaps the obligation , to be the moral compass in that State House. But instead of guiding your husband toward national unity and justice, you allegedly embraced dark arts, manipulation, and political division. You became a symbol not of peace, but of provocation.
Your theatrics and use of religion as a cover will not erase the pain and suffering this nation has endured under your influence. No amount of staged religious celebration can whitewash the injustices committed under your watch.
Mark this: power is temporary, but truth is eternal. The very hands that clap for you today will tremble tomorrow in shame. The same people who surround you now in flattery will one day deny even knowing you when accountability knocks.
History does not forget. The people of Sierra Leone will not forget. And above all, God , whom you so conveniently invoke , does not forget either.
Eid Mubarak to the people. But never Eid amnesia to those who pretend to lead with integrity while hiding their hands of blood.
