CELTEL AND MO IBRAHIM WILL NOT HELP SIERRA LEONE.
Mo. Ibrahim like most Capitalist from the Arab World who came to Sierra Leone has practically ripped off under false pretence with Islam. Where is his conscious? Celtel is the worse Celphone Company in Sierra Leone. They cut your minutes, there is no regulation and control to protect the consumer .He does not even pay taxes on actual revenue collected from this endless blood money from poor Sierra Leonean. My source at NRA confirmed that out-going SLPP government was not even auditing the books of Celtel. I mean no thorough Accounting Standard to protect the Interest of Sierra Leone. They only billed what was told .This goes for all the Celphone Companies. He paid less that $300,000.00 for his license to do business in Sierra Leone, $7 Millions in Gambia and 5 million in Senegal. Sierra Leonean will like to know who got paid for this poor negotiation Job on behalf of Sierra Leone. Celtel was given less than 1 week to leave Senegal because of trying to use there muscle to shut down all communication system with the aim of aiding the opposition. My source at the National Revenue Collection said, he cut a deal with out going President and his cabal to get his feet into our country.
Prince Harding, Kabba’s eye ball needs to be brought to justice before it is too late. His commission of inquiries needs to be expanded to include all businesses approved under his tenure especially Celphone Companies.
Fellow Sierra Leonean, it is time to ask the right question to Mo Ibrahim and the new Government of Ernest Koroma.What is Mo Ibrahim going to do about price control on Cell-phone Company. What is the President going to about reversing all land sold by SIERRATEL/SLET to people like Mo Ibrahim who runs around Africa as the new Prophet of good Governance?
Sirratel , SLET and Sierra Leone Government needs to take control of telecommunication and institute tougher Consumer and Trade Policies to cut down abuse by celphone companies in sierra Leonean. Sierra Leonean spends more on celphone than food and clothing combine TOGETHER.

actually it was julius spencer that signed that agreement with celtel for a paltry $50,000 and exclusivity for 15 years

I am not defending Mo Ibrahim and celtel here, but is it not the job of a businessman to make profit for himself and his shareholders. The Government should be the one that is held responsible for not producing a fair deal for the nation. It is important for us in Africa not to vilify businesses, or create a state of xenophobia. The new government of Sierra Leone should continue to welcome foreign businesses, but use the experiences of past agreements to create deals that are beneficial to the nation.

Thank you. If other governments were smart enough to get good deals for their people, is that Mo Ibrahim’s fault? Of course he is going to low ball, but that doesn’t mean they had to accept an insultingly low deal.

ok now. i am for accountability in all areas of the country. but lets not go on a witch hunt to foreign investors no matter where they are from. we need foreign investments to bring jobs. what we need to do is to make laws that are foreign investment friendly but are in the interest of our country. if we look like protectionalist country we would scare much needed foreign investment away. we rely on teh government for everything. lets open our economy for investment as long as those that invest do things positive. these foreign companies are not gonan invest here if we seem to be protectionalists. I encourage my young brothers back home to take up fields liek engineering especially. the countries in teh future that would be able to compete are those with strong engineering and science thinkers.
