Ebola Update July 9, 2014

 

 

  • For the 8th July 2014, a total of 38 samples were received by the Laboratory: Thirty (30) from Kailahun and eight (8) from Kenema. Seventeen (17) of the 38 samples have been confirmed positive for Ebola, 14 from Kailahun and 3 from Kenema. Nineteen (19) of the remaining samples are negative while 2 Laboratory results are pending.
  • Two of the laboratory pending results yesterday are now negative while 1 sample is still under processing in the laboratory
  • The cumulative number of Laboratory confirmed cases are 298 whiles confirmed death is 91
  • Ninety-three(93) cases are currently admitted at the treatment centers, 59 in Kenema and 34 in Kailahun
  • The cumulative number of discharged cases is 39
  • Line listing of contacts and monitoring of case contacts is on-going in districts with confirmed cases
  • The World Health Organisation (WHO) Assistant Director General for Health Safety and Security who is on an assessment visit to Sierra Leone, has said in Freetown that based on his assessment from visits in affected areas and of the implementation of Ebola response activities and plans in the country, the WHO disagrees with the pronouncement by certain partners that the disease is “out of control”; especially in Sierra Leone
