Yesterday was Palm Sunday, a day that marks the triumphant entry into Jerusalem by the Lord Jesus Christ. According to the Gospel of John, “The people of Jerusalem took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” (John 12:12-13). Palm Sunday is followed by the the final week of Lent , the week also that Christians celebrate the mystery of their salvation through Christ’s Death on Good Friday and His Resurrection on Easter Sunday.
Yesterday’s Service was also hugely attended , with the congregation consisting Africans, Caribbean citizens, philipinos , Indians and Americans to the glory of God who has made the ministry a church of all nations.
MEMBERS OF THE CONGREGATION DEEP IN PRAYER
Pastor Leeroy Wilfred Kabs-Kanu earlier conducted the first Membership Class of the new church during which he gave a comprehensive teaching on what it entails to be a faithful and committed member of a church and the statement of beliefs of the Church based on the infallible Word of God. He taught that the church is not really the physical structure but the body of believers meeting to worship the Lord and that the body of believers have to be committed to God, their leaders and the church ( I corinthians 11:1 and Romans 12: 4,5 ). The believer, he taught, is instructed to assemble and fellowship with other believers ( Hebrews 10: 25 ) .
THE PRAISE AND WORSHIP TEAM IN ACTION : ON FAR RIGHT REV. LEEROY KABS-KANU
Pastor Kabs-Kanu said that joining a local church helps one to exercise his/her spiritual gifts and talents (Ephesians 4 : 11-16, 1 Corinthians 12 : 4-6 ) . About what it means to join a local church, the pastor said that believers should be committed, transparent and accountable to other believers, supportive to the church and other believers and must accept the teachings of the church based on the Bible. The believer must also experience the new birth (John 3:3 , Acts 2 : 37 -41, and Romans 10: 9,10); Be obedient to the Word of God; be baptized by immersion, be prayerful and study the Word of God to show themselves approved unto God, a workman that need not be ashamed , rightly dividing the word of truth ( 2 Timothy 2 :15, 2 Peter 2:2 and Psalm 119: 104-105 ).
BROTHER DOMINIC KABINEH EXHORTING THE CONGREGATION
This was followed by the usual worship and praise session led by Sisters Augustina Taylor and Isatu Kamara . Sister Axa Kieffer made the announcements followed by reading of the Bible passage of the day by Brother Gibrilla Dumbuya and the exhortation on giving by Brother Dominic Kabineh.
BROTHER GIBRILLA DUMBUYA DOING THE READING OF THE BIBLE PASSAGE
Pastor Tigidankay Kabs-Kanu delivered the sermon of the day with the title, THE GOOD SHEPHERD , taken from Isaiah 53:6 and other passages like John 10: 7-18, Matthew 11: 28-30 etc.etc.
PASTOR TIGIDANKAY KABS-KANU DELIVERING THE WORD
She preached about how man had gone astray like the stray sheep and how the good, kind, loving shepherd, Jesus Christ , brought him back and reconciled him to God through the shedding of his precious blood on the Cross of Calvary. She called on christians to be always alert and abide in Christ through prayer, worship and obedience to the Word of God. She admonished the church not to be complacent like the 5 foolish virgins who did not have enough oil in their lamps and went out to buy oil and in their absence the Master came and when they returned the door had been shut against them as it was too late.
