Hundreds of excited Ernest Koroma supporters out in the streets of Makeni to show solidarity with former President

As the Anti-Corruption Commission ( ACC ) meets with former President Ernest Koroma in Makeni today, hundreds of frenzied supporters have poured out into the streets to demonstrate their solidarity with the former Head of State.

The ACC will be questioning the former president on matters arising from the recent report of the various commissions of inquiry set up by the SLPP Government to probe corruption . But the people of Makeni, who like many Sierra Leoneans think that the whole exercise was a witch hunt have poured into the streets to demonstrate support for the Ex-President.

Despite the recent killings of youths in the Northern capital two months ago by SLPP Government security forces during the standby generator protest , the youths are back on the streets of Makeni and this time they are backed by secret societies. Those who thought that the youths will be cowed by the recent violent handling of the demonstration, which was widely condemned locally and internationally , are surprised at the brave and frenzied attitudes of the youths today.

According to journalist Claudius Beckley, “Report reaching us from MAKENI says that, Former president Ernest Bai Koroma is all set for the Interview. E dae Wait for the ACC investigating Team for Arrive.”

PRESIDENT KOROMA’S OFFICE PUT OUT THIS STATEMENT :

“Even before exercising his legal right to appeal, Sierra Leone’s well – regarded former president Ernest Bai Koroma is exhibiting true statesmanship by welcoming today in his residence personnel from the ACC which requested to speak to him on issues they say emanated from the COI and the White Paper. Former President Koroma agrees to the ACC request despite the fact that he believes that the allegations against him are without any merit. “
