If you hear from housewives. according to the article above from the STANDARD TIMES newspaper, how much they buy a cup of rice, a pint of palm oil, or one bunch of potato or cassava leaves ( just that : Forget about fish or meat for now ) , you will think that Sierra Leoneans are celebrated magicians.
Putting all the prices of what it takes to cook for a family, from the market reports in the newspaper above, Sierra Leoneans spend over one million leones everyday just to eat one meal.
How do they manage to accomplish it when most people do not earn up to a million leones per month ? This is the mystery people abroad are thinking about . Sierra Leoneans have become magicians indeed !
Reading stories like this below from the Sierra Leone newspapers is heart-wrenching and devastating. And to say even as prices continue to go through the roof, the SLPP Government is adding more and more taxes, charges and bills on basic commodities on the heads of the poor people ? Look at the new toll and airport charges and the potential they have to escalate the prices of transportation and food. It is sickening !
When you write to complain, SLPP bloggers and sycophants rudely jump on you to try to shut you up. They will call you names and insult you as impudently as they can. They have no human feelings for what our people are suffering.
But, let us ask these SLPP zealots : Who will read such disheartening reports of extreme hardship for our people and not be aggrieved? Did not Maada Bio come to power with high- end and flamboyant promises to alleviate the sufferings of our people ? Why is it that , instead of accomplishing it, he has continued to add more economic woes on our people ?
The reports coming from Sierra Leone about the hardships Bio is causing the people are very, very concerning. This tollgate issue and the problems of the rip-off buses and the airport charges will be Maada Bio’s archilles heel, if he does not get down his high horses and begin to solve them. Bio is joking with a civil uprising against his government.
As things continue to worsen, the people of Sierra Leone will not wait for Maada Bio and the SLPP for long. If he thinks that because nobody is jumping into the streets now, he is reprieved, he is mistaken. When this suffering reaches boiling point, the people will uprise .
We can describe them as cowards all we want but a day is coming when Sierra Leoneans will say, “Enough is enough” and they will copy what the people of Senegal and Nigeria are doing. And Bio’s tribal Police and Army will not be able to stop them. Nobody can stop a hunger mob.
The kind of suffering going on in Sierra Leone is unconscionable and unacceptable. It is a human rights abuse. It must stop now.
Maada Bio must act now or he will regret soon.
