The funeral service and celebration of the life of the late former Minister of State, Eastern Region, William Juana Smith has commenced at the Kercher Memorial United Methodist Church in the Eastern capital city of Kenema, to be followed by a committal service at Reservation, Kenema City.
His Excellency, President Dr Ernest Koroma and the Hon. Vice President, Alhaji Chief Sidique Sam Sumana, cabinet ministers, party officials, stalwarts and supporters, public functionaries as well as representatives of political parties are among those paying their last respects to the fallen APC hero, whose death a good number of the tributes have described as an irreparable loss to the entire nation.

According to the SLPP’s Quee, the political life of the late WJ Smith was very admirable.
‘Make A Name’ simply abbreviated M.A.N. is how the PMDC representative described the late William Juana Smith. “He made a name for himself,” he maintained.

From personal observations among the people of the East, the death of WJ Smith is being viewed as a great unifier of the nation, especially in this part of the country.

The mortal remains of the late former Minister of State, Eastern Region, comrade William Juana Smith was today laid out at the All People’s Congress Party Office in Kenema City where President Ernest Koroma and the Hon. Vice President, cabinet ministers, party officials, stalwarts and supporters as well as public functionaries paid their last respects to the fallen APC hero.

Comrade WJ Smith as he was fondly known passed away to the land of truth on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2014. The funeral service will take place tomorrow Sunday 11th May, 2014 at the Kercher Memorial UMC Church, Seiya Street, Kenema City. He died at age 69 years (14th October 1944 – April 23rd, 2014). Interment at his new residence at Reservation, Kenema City.
According to President Koroma, comrade WJ Smith lived the life of a true comrade at every stage of his life. He profusely thanked the people of Kenema for the life of the former Resident Minister. “He was a man that embraced everybody irrespective of their political affiliation,” the Chairman and Leader of the APC said.
President Koroma further stated that the late William Smith was a unifier who brought the chiefs, youth and people of the Eastern region together under one roof.
Hon. Victor Bockarie Foh who delivered a rousing tribute to the late comrade, William Juana Smith said that “Smith lived once, but lived well,” and noted that WJ Smith never had enemies in politics.
