LIBERIAN DIPLOMAT WHO DIED SUDDENLY HAD SIERRA LEONE TIES AND WAS PROUD OF HER SCHOOLING IN FREETOWN

One of the most pleasant and brilliant personalities I worked with at the UN was the Liberian diplomat, Ms. Gail Farngalo . We always met at the African Union ( AU) Permanent Mission in New York and some committees in the UN whenever I deputized assigned counselors.

She was delightful to work with and was always keen to share her wealth of knowledge and ideas. She was a brilliant diplomat and loved her work.

Ms. Gail Farngalo received her secondary school education in Sierra Leone at the St. Joseph’s Convent , Brookfields, Freetown . Her father, the late Mr. Gabriel Farngalo, was a diplomat in Sierra Leone. She was always proud to recall this fact and she could speak Krio. We usually made fun in Krio.

She was friendly with female diplomats in the Sierra Leone Mission to the UN and often visited them at the Mission. She was part of the family.

Recently, she had gone to Liberia to spend her Christmas leave and she shared photos of some of her activities there on Facebook. She died suddenly on January 19 after her return from Liberia. I only read of her sudden passing this morning from the LTC Funeral Page which I often checked, understandably, because I made precious families and friends in Liberia. How shocked I was when I saw her photo and death report from her family. I shed tears. May her soul rest in peace.

Gail’s towering , pleasant and brilliant personality will be missed within the walls of the UN where she excelled herself and also made good friends. I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathy to her family and friends in Liberia and the U.S.
