As a young girl growing up in Newton and Waterloo, Augusta started serving the Lord alongside her mother. After completing secondary school, Augusta attended the Port Loko Teachers College in Makeni and became a well-known teacher in the provinces and Freetown. She taught at the Roman Catholic School in Lunsar, St. Joseph’s Primary School in Makeni and Tower Hill Primary School in Freetown.

During her years in Makeni, she became the director of the Handicap Society and in Lunsar, she served in leadership roles with the Red Cross Society.

Augusta went into early retirement to migrate to the USA in 1991.

In the US, she achieved her Nursing Assistant Certification and worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for a few years. She returned to her roots and worked as a Pre-K teacher at the Somerset Community Action Program (SCAP) in Somerset, New Jersey for 10 years. Augusta dedicated most of her life to teaching and was a beloved teacher by both her colleagues and students.

In 2003, she became one of the founding members of the Mothers’ Union of St. John The Evangelist, New Jersey Chapter.

Augusta raised her children with sound discipline, extraordinary moral values, and a strong faith in God. She carried every traits of a Leo because she was very creative, strong presence that is hard to resist and capable of achieving anything. Augusta is generous, and loyal but not afraid to speak her mind and almost impossible to challenge.

Augusta was also a woman of faith because she devoted her entire life to serving God. She was a member of Marks Memorial Methodist Church in Newton, Sierra Leone. In the U.S. she served as a Communion Steward at the Trinity United Methodist Church for almost 20 years.

Augusta’s favorite verse is Isaiah 43:2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” NIV.

Augusta loved to spend some of her time on the phone with her nephew, Pastor Shika Ademu-John discussing the bible and sharing scriptures. Augusta also used to spend her time with her spiritual sister, Celia Davies-Fynn, praying for others and giving words of encouragements. Augusta was a woman of profound faith whose whole life was centered in the Lord.

Augusta Paulina Macauley knew where she was going. Her family and friends have no doubt of her destination. On August 12, 2024, Augusta will celebrate her birthday with a heavenly banquet surrounded by Saints and Angels.

MAY HER SOUL REST IN PERFECT PEACE
