As Co- Chairs expected to let the cat out of the bag, truth about 2023 elections rerun will be known tomorrow

By Kabs Kanu
The latest controversy about the cross-party tripartite committee will be resolved tomorrow when co-chairs of the committee hold a major press conference to brief the nation and the world about its terms of reference and progress made so far in pushing the internationally mediated dialogue between the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party ( SLPP ) and the opposition All People’s Congress ( APC ) to restore democracy in Sierra Leone.

SLPP government and party officials and supporters are contending that the 2023 elections which international elections observers and stakeholders accuse President Bio of rigging is done and dusted and the committee will be investigating elections only for the purpose of ensuring transparency and accountability in future elections.

On the other side of the spectrum, supporters of the APC are divided on the purpose of the committee. Since the day former Presidential candidate, Dr. Samura Kamara indicated that  the committee ‘s findings could lead to early elections, many APC supporters are pushing the narrative that after the committee would have exposed how the SLPP rigged the elections, a rerun will be held in six months.  But at the same time, there are APC  supporters leaning towards the SLPP  narrative that it is all over since the tripartite committee lacked the constitutional mandate to order a rerun of elections—-and APC  supporters of Dr. Samura Kamara are accusing them of being rebels of the party who are promoting the 2028 agenda .

Yesterday, COCORIOKO Newspaper called on the APC  to clarify the thorny matter that has divided the party .

However, if nobody does, it is expected that the cat will be out of the bag tomorrow. One way or the other, at least a journalist will definitely ask a question to seek clarification of the matter and from the responses one would be able to discern the truth. People are therefore eagerly looking forward to tomorrow’s press conference.
