Press release, Freetown, Sunday 18th June 2023. The National Federation For Human Rights utterly condemns President Maada Bio’s threat to former President Koroma and the main opposition APC party as the country approaches the June 24th 2023 elections.
The National Federation For Human Rights is disturbed by the incessant threat and impulse made by President Julius Maada Bio and his wife Madam Fatima Maada Bio towards former President Ernest Bai Koroma and the main opposition party APC. Therefore, this misdeed and unhealthy stance of President Julius Maada Bio and his wife is utterly dictatorial and a violation of Article 25 of the Civil and Political Rights.
This utterance will undermine the democratic process and provoke conflict in Sierra Leone. Bear in mind, the crucial nature of the June 24th 2023 Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Council Elections. Thus, the unwarranted threats uttered to the former president and the opposition APC by incumbent President Julius Maada Bio have highlighted the political apprehension and increased mistrust over the conduct of the forthcoming election by ECSL whose head and staff members are known SLPP zealots.
The National Federation For Human Rights, hence, wishes to categorically denounce the unprofessional and partisan composition of the current ECSL. The lack of transparency and fairness in the operations of the ECSL has become a crisis point between the ECSL and the main opposition of the APC.
