Police declare many persons wanted, as Freetown remains apprehensive and tense

The Sierra Leone Police has declared many persons wanted as the country remains tense and apprehension reigns in the capital, Freetown, following Sunday’s chaos when armed men allegedly stormed the Wilberforce Barracks armory and the maximum Pademba Road Prisons, with heavy shooting that lasted for hours.

The Sierra Leone People’s Party ( SLPP) Government has described Sunday’s event as a security breach and has not mentioned an attempted coup , but rabid supporters of the party on social media have said that it was an attempt to overthrow the government.

Today, more shootings were reported in the suburbs of Murray Town and Congo Cross but they subsided after a while and reports said that the incidents were caused by security forces receiving resistance when they went to arrest some people believed to be suspects.

There is still tension in the country as the security forces are going around conducting searches for suspects.
