Sierra Leoneans are questioning the recent appointment of Mr. Edmond Alpha, the Southern Region Elections Commissioner , as the new Acting Chairman of the Sierra Leone National Elections Commission.
The present NEC Chair, Mr. Infa Allie Conteh, completed his tenure but he is due a renewal of another term. However, President Bio has chosen to replace him as announced last week by the Government. What has surprised and alarmed Sierra Leoneans to possible fishy intentions by the President is that Mrs. Miata French, the Western Area Commissioner, by dint of seniority and convention , was next in line to be the Chair of the NEC. However, President Bio has chosen unilaterally to skip her and appoint Mr. Edmond Alpha, a junior officer to Mrs. French and a known fanatical supporter of the president’s political party, the SLPP.
Sierra Leoneans perceive the move as an early covert operation by President Bio to rig the 2023 Presidential and Legislative elections in Sierra Leone.
Since he came to power in 2018, President Bio has shown no respect for the the security of tenured position. A dictator, who has no respect for democracy, human rights , the constitution or the rule of law, , as well as inclusive governance, President Bio has ruled Sierra Leone as his own personal fiefdom and has created fear that he would spark chaos in the country by imposing himself on the people in 2023, amidst widespread frustration in the country over his dictatorial and tribalistic policies and inability to rule the country.
Already, Sierra Leoneans in the social media have deemed the last Christmas holidays as the worst in the country for decades because the cost of living and hardships were intolerable for the people. It is under this dark cloud that President Bio is planning to rig the 2023 elections, which would likely be resisted by the Sierra Leonean people.
INFA ALLIE : HE HAS BEEN REPLACED BY PRESIDENT BIO
WE BRING YOU ANOTHER VERSION OF THE STORY OF PRESIDENT BIO ‘S MONKEY TRICKS BY JOURNALIST IDRISSA SALAAM CONTEH.
Breaking News: 31 December 2019
N’fa Alie Replaced as NEC Chief Commissioner!
Mohamed N’fa Alie Conteh has been replaced as Chief Electoral Commissioner of the National Electoral Commission following the end of his 5-year term of office.
Mr. Edmond Sylvester Alpha has been appointed acting NEC Commissioner.
N’fa Conteh notified the New Direction about the expiration of his contract which was due on December 20, 2019 but the New Direction prefers to replace him though the contract was renewable for a second term.
Very credible sources say, the New Direction has not been comfortable with N’fa Ali Conteh of late especially with regard the conduct of bye-elections across the country in which the ruling party has been performing poorly.
The violence that shattered the bye-elections of Constituency 101 at Lumley which the opposition APC was poised to win sent shocking waves across the country. The New Direction wanted to win the seat paopa but the tide turned in favour of the APC.
So, a band of hooligans led by the Transport Minister invaded the polling station putting NEC staff under siege and vandalizing ballot boxes and other documents they could lay hands on.
The bye-elections results have been sending warning signals to the New Direction under the purview of N’fa Ali Conteh. We’re not surprised that his c contract has not been renewed.
