The last edition in February was held on the theme: ‘Leadership as Key to Africa’s future growth and Development’, and was held in Washington DC.

President Koroma could not attend. But in a letter to the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of the Magazine ahead of the occasion, he expressed appreciation for the recognition.

He said it confirmed “the transformative leadership which has been the cardinal focus of his administration.”

On Friday at State House in Freetown, the President repeated this position while dedicating the award to the people of Sierra Leone for standing by him.

With this award, the Sierra Leonean leader joins a list of distinguished personalities who earlier received the award, including President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, President James Michel of Seychelles, among others.

Other distinguished African personalities to have received it include African Development Bank President Donald Kaberuka, former Nigerian Central Bank Governor, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and Mo Ibrahim.

The Executive Board of Trustees of the magazine cited Koroma`s “unique character” and his transformative leadership qualities that brought dignity and integrity to his country.

It also cited his efforts to fight against the scourge of corruption, as well as his effort to empower grassroots people.

Previous editions of the awards summit have been held in Accra, Paris, Dubai, London and New York.
