To show that unprofessional and undiplomatic conduct run through the corpus of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party ( SLPP ), the Minister of Tourism, Memuna Pratt, has openly attacked the European Union ( EU) in a tweet on social media.
The minister is angry at the EU because the organization’s representative in Sierra Leone took time during the commissioning of the Mabang Bridge to make it very clear that the construction was fully funded by the EU. So keen was he to make his point clear that he even expressed it in the local lingua franca, Krio.
The question that everybody is asking is what was wrong with the EU Representative clarifying that the Mabang Bridge was solely sponsored by the EU ? The EU Ambassador did nothing wrong to set the records straight. Many Sierra Leoneans think that the main reason for Memuna Pratt’s outburst was that the EU ambassador’s clarification left no room for the SLPP to steal credit for the project.
The behavior of Memuna Pratt is not only unprofessional and undiplomatic. It is very childish and shows the level of retardation in the mentality of personalities serving this SLPP Government, regardless of their academic heights. It is very shameful for a government minister to launch such an unprovoked attack on a donor partner and stakeholder, for no valid reason whatsoever.
This incident underlines another fact–The SLPP have launched an attack on THE TRUTH in Sierra Leone. They want to govern the country with lies and deceit and taking credit for projects they did not mastermind and anybody who sets the record straight becomes their enemy.
Memuna Pratt only succeeded in making a mockery of herself and the SLPP Government. There is no concern here. The only concern here is the immaturity, charlatanism and childishness of a whole minister of government who calls herself an academic.
