Sierra Leoneans observe sit-home protest in partial lockdown of city and country to demand release of voters data by ECSL

Some parts of the Sierra Leone capital, Freetown and the country were in partial lockdown today as a big storm arises over the failure of the Elections Commission to release data of prospective voters as demanded by opposition parties, some members of civil society and political advocates.

As seen in photos below, many shops , businesses and schools were closed and streets and communities were reduced to ghost towns as Sierra Leoneans obeyed the voice of the country’s one-man civil society and democracy and human rights campaigner, Adebayor , a resident of Holland, who formed the organization —People’s Power in Politics ( PPP)–who called for the sit-home strike to be followed by massive demonstrations today.

However, Adebayor’s call was only partially heeded in the capital and the country as business went on as usual in some communities. Social media commentators however described the sit-home strike as a strong message to President Maada Bio that Sierra Leoneans are angry with suspicions that he wants to rig the June 24 elections.

The APC has drawn attention to:
The botched Voter Registration Process which disenfranchised a large number of eligible voters that are suspected of not being sympathetic to the rulingSierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). PERSPECTIVE SCOPE
