What is really so bad about hypocrisy ? What is really so bad about hypocrisy is the deceit behind it. A hypocrite is a very deceitful person who should never be trusted in anything, especially leadership of a nation. He says one thing and does the opposite. A political party that stinks with hypocrisy should never win the trust of a nation because it will only end up deceiving its people. The Sierra Leone People’s Party ( SLPP ) has always been deceitful to the Sierra Leonean people because it is a hypocritical party . It is a political party that promises the nation one thing and does the exact opposite.
What is really so bad about hypocrisy is that a hypocrite never deserves to be taken seriously because he is a pretender. He goes through all the motions but at bottom, it is all pretense. The SLPP are the greatest pretenders in the nation.
AMBASSADOR ALLIE BANGURA : THE SLPP EXPELLED HIM FOR SEEKING REDRESS IN THE COURT OF LAW.
JESUS CRIST, our Lord and Savior disliked nothing like hypocrisy . Hypocrisy was at the bottom of his dislike of the scribes and the pharisees and the reason that he would dine with the publicans and the sinners but have nothing to do with the scribes and the pharisees except lambast and denounce them whole day. Listen to Christ denouncing the scribes and the pharisees :“The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat; 3 therefore, do whatever they teach you and follow it; but do not do as they do, for they do not practice what they teach….(Matthew 23 : 2,3 RSV). 27 “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. 28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.”
Can anyone imagine that the very SLPP that condemned the ruling All People’s Congress ( APC ) for expelling the former Vice-President, Alhaji Samuel Sam Sumana , has gone ahead and done the same thing. The SLPP has expelled one of its prospective flagbearers for the forthcoming 2018 Presidential Elections , Ambassador Allie Essah Bangura, for reasons not even as weighty as the ones for which the APC expelled Sam Sumana . In fact, it would shock readers to find out why the SLPP expelled Ambassador Bangura.
When the APC announced that it has expelled the ex-VP, the SLPP responded swiftly with a condemnation of the act. According to a press release on March 11 from the SLPP, the APC expelled VP Sam Sumana , “after an investigation that found the Vice President guilty of deceit, false statements amounting to fraud, inciting hate, threatening the personal security of key party functionaries, flouting the rulings and decisions of the party, carrying out anti party propaganda and engaging in activities inconsistent with the party objectives.” The party found problems with the expulsion . Their statement strongly postulated : “The SLPP registers our total and unambiguous concern at the ugly and unprecedented political drama the All People’s Congress (APC) staged …” , according to the statement. The hypocrites went on : “The SLPP is concerned that this action has the unnerving potential of rolling back the democratic gains this nation has scored since the end of the civil war in 2002.” The SLPP even afforded to pontificate and be sanctimonious in the statement : “Meanwhile, the SLPP as the Government in Waiting will use every constitutional means to ensure that we do not return to the dictatorship of yesteryears; which the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) report state was the main precursor of the brutal civil war our nation witnessed.”
Yet, just one month after such hypocritical grandstanding and a high-faluting , holier-than-thou statement, the SLPP yesterday expelled Ambassador Bangura for acts that did not even rise to the level of those allegedly committed by former VP, Sam Sumana .
According to a statement from the SLPP, below are the reasons given for expelling one of their aspirants for the Presidency :
” The National Officers further recalled in their deliberations that Mr. Allie Essa Bangura has unjustifiably failed to honour and fulfill his solemn obligations as a member of the Party as prescribed by the Party Constitution 1995 (as amended) including in particular his failure to pay regularly the prescribed dues of the Party since the Bo Conference. The National Officers further noted that it has been the intention of Mr. Allie Essa Bangura, as evidenced by his recent conduct and activities towards the Party, to bring about the total paralysis and eventual collapse of the Party. Such activities included his manifest desire to use the judicial process to frustrate and restrain all the established organs and institutions of the Party at all levels from carrying out their legitimate and constitutional functions and duties that will ensure the continued survival and integrity of the SLPP as a democratic Party, especially at this most critical time in the history of the evolution and development of constitutionalism, democracy and democratic governance of the State of Sierra Leone of which our Party is an integral part. ”
“In light of all the foregoing, and in the paramount interest of preserving the integrity and survival of the SLPP, the elected National Officers of the Party have resolved to relieve Mr. Allie Essa Bangura of his membership of the SLPP. ”
The first question that any sane person would ask is , when did using “the judicial process” become an act “to frustrate and restrain all the established organs and institutions of the Party at all levels from carrying out their legitimate and constitutional functions and duties” ? Is the SLPP really serious ?
The same SLPP, which has threatened to destabilize Sierra Leone and has paid its stooges in the U. S . to stage demonstrations against President Ernest Koroma for relieving the former VP of his duties, because, according to them, it is a violation of the constitution and the law , is now expelling one of its members for seeking redress in the courts of law. If what the SLPP has done is not hypocrisy and double standards that stink to the high heavens , one wonders what else it is .
It is a shame to the SLPP to expel somebody who relied on the judicial process to seek redress . The same SLPP who mounted the highest moral high ground in defence of the sanctity of the law in Sierra Leone, as they professed , could not bear to see one of its own members testing the supremacy of the same law ! ! ! A party member attempting to use the same law to seek redress is being accused of trying to paralyze their party and has been expelled. What is wrong with man ? Is the SLPP not confirming the fears of the Sierra Leonean people that everything it has been doing since the Sam Sumana issue started is mere showboating as well as hypocrisy ? Does the SLPP think that there are one set of laws for them and another set of laws for the nation of Sierra Leone ? This is all that is wrong with the SLPP. They do not consider the laws of Sierra Leone binding on them. They believe that they should always have a different set of laws outside the constitution guiding their operations.
If Sam Sumana had earlier sought redress from the courts of law instead of allegedly stirring chaos within the APC and inciting violence in Kono , as his party accused him, he would not have been expelled by the APC. The difference between the APC and the SLPP is grandly manifest here : The APC being accused of not respecting the constitution respects the law ; The SLPP making all the noise about respect for the constitution does not respect the law. If the SLPP really respect the law, they would not have expelled Ambassador Bangura for using the judicial process to solve his problems with the party.
The SLPP executives have proved that they are not people to be trusted and taken seriously at all because “ all their works they do for to be seen of men” ( Matthew 23 : 5 ) . The SLPP has exposed itself that all its protests over the Sam Sumana issue are only being done for the eye-seeing of men. They have highjacked the Sam Sumana matter just to pretend to the nation and the world that they are virtuous when in fact they are full of hypocrisy, double standards and fake democratic aspirations.
So what is really so bad about hypocrisy ? What is really so bad about hypocrisy is a failure to live up to one’s own moral code . It is the falsity with which those who practice it act that is really so bad about hypocrisy . The fake appearance of virtue that does not exist is all that is wrong about hypocrisy.
The SLPP should clean up their own backyard before they try to clean up the APC’s . As the same Jesus Christ would say : The SLPP should remove the log in their own eyes to be able to clearly see to remove the mote from their neighbour’s eyes.
