The SLPP Succession Battle Has Finally Begun, And It Will Be Brutal!
Just a few days ago, I wrote that the biggest misconception among supporters of the Chief Minister is the belief that the old guard of the SLPP will peacefully allow him—or any new face—to become the party’s presidential candidate. Many dismissed my analysis, but the signs are now becoming clearer.
The internal fight brewing within the SLPP will be bigger, messier, and more destructive than the APC’s internal crisis under former President Ernest Bai Koroma. And here’s why:
1️⃣ The Betrayal Factor
After the 2023 elections, President Bio sidelined many of the people who sacrificed, fought, and campaigned tirelessly for him in 2018.
Instead, he elevated new faces—people who were nowhere near the struggle and had no political scars to show for it.
To the old SLPP loyalists, this was not just disrespect; it was betrayal.
2️⃣ They Will Never Allow Bio’s Preferred Successor
Whether it is the Chief Minister or any other new figure, the SLPP elders will not allow someone they consider “recently imported” to inherit the party.
This is exactly what happened to Samura Kamara in the APC.
He was handpicked, but the old power blocs sabotaged him internally—leaking information, undermining strategy, and ensuring electoral defeat.
SLPP old guards have watched that playbook.
And trust me… they have their own version ready.
3️⃣ The Party Is Quiet on the Outside, Boiling on the Inside
Make no mistake—some of the loudest praises today hide the deepest grievances.
People who feel ignored, unappreciated, and replaced will not sit quietly when it’s time to decide the next presidential candidate.
The “Green Family” is entering a chapter where every move will matter.
