YENGA BORDER DISPUTE: ECONOMIC HARDSHIP HITS RESIDENTS OF KAILAHUN.
SLPP MP CALLS ON GOVERNMENT TO ACT FAST.
As the country continues to face with an increase economic hardship under the leadership of H.E Julius Maada Bio, a sitting Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) member of parliament from Kailahun district, Honorable Ing. Fallah Kenawah Tengbeh, has described the economic situation in the country especially for his constituents in the Kailahun district as appalling and thus needs urgent attention from President Bio’s government.
In an interview with Press men from the Parliamentary press gallery on the 15th September 2025, he said residents in Kailahun district are seriously hit by a static economic hardship since the Yenga border fight between Sierra Leone and Guinea started.
“My constituents can not access their farmlands, because of the land encroachment by the Guinean military personnel” Hon. Tengbeh emphasized.
Farming as the key daily activity of residents in Kailahun, many are being left in a doubtful state as the Yenga border crisis continues.
Assuring the displace communities, he emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving the Yenga crisis through diplomatic channels, underlining that ECOWAS’s involvement is a crucial step toward achieving a lasting solution. The delegation has initiated dialogue from the Sierra Leonean side, while the Guinean representatives have requested additional time before the mission engages them further.
He therefore calls on the Bio government for swift and speedy settlement on the Yenga disputes so the people of Kailahun will continue their farming activities smoothly without fear of intimidation by the Guinean military personnel.
