Petition to free #FreeSheikhUmarrKamarah
My father has been detained in Freetown, Sierra Leone. We have not been made aware of the charges he is facing and we don’t know where he is. My dad is a professor Virginia State University since 2001. He has consciously chosen to teach full time at HBCUs only since he started his professional career in America. As a child, he told me he has to use his talents for the healing of the people that they stole from us. If you go to, went to, or know of Virginia State & Shaw University in NC, please retweet this and help me find my father.
We are concerned about him having access to his medications and precautions against COVID-19. #FreeSheikhUmarrKamarah

His name is Sheikh Umarr Kamarah.
Please help me contact our senator to petition him to pressure the Embassy for my father’s release. Emails are also welcome to request an investigation into his arrest. [email protected]

TAKE ACTION to #FreeSheikhUmarrKamarah in Sierra Leone
Dr. Sheikh Umarr Kamarah is an American citizen of Sierra Leonean descent who needs your support. He has been unfairly accused of and detained for crimes in Sierra Leone that he did not commit. Dr. Kamarah’s family, friends, and broad community demand his immediate release. He is scheduled to return to the US with a repatriation flight on June 9 that he must be allowed to board. His arrest appears to be highly politically motivated though he is not a politician.
Dr. Kamarah cares deeply about his native country, his American home, and his family. He is a devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle. In the US, he is a linguistics professor at the Virginia State University, but he currently works in community relations and development for SL Mining in Sierra Leone. When he found out he was wanted, he righteously turned himself in to police, but we are demanding all charges against Dr. Kamarah be dropped.
To support Dr. Kamarah, please call the following offices and assert that Dr. Kamarah must be allowed to return to the US on June 9:
