Sierra Leone to celebrate corporate excellence
Leading players from across corporate Sierra Leone will compete for Sierra Leone’s most prestigious corporate awards and leadership honours at the first annual Sierra Leone Business Awards (SLBSA) 2016 in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
The prestigious awards ceremony and banquet dinner, which is organised by the Sierra Leone Council of Chief Executives in collaboration with the Africa Media Corporation, publisher of African CEO, African Enterprise, African Ovation and African Petroleum magazines, and the African Council of Chief Executives, will be hosted at Sierra Leone’s prestigious Bintumani Hotel in Aberdeen, Freetown on Friday, October 21, 2016.
“Companies are leading the way with million dollar investments to improve socioeconomic growth and human development across the country. In addition, the country is currently producing some of the most impressive enterprises in the sub-region, with success stories including Sierra Rutile, LEOCEM, among others,” commented Peter SaSellu, Chairman of the Organising Committee, and President of the Sierra Leone CEO Council and Chairman of the Africa Media Corporation, based in New York City, USA.
“The Sierra Leone Business Awards will make a welcome to this year’s honourees who’ve demonstrated sound corporate governance, business excellence and have contributed to human development across the country. However, we’re delighted to recognise those national, regional and international companies that stand out from this exalted crowd. The nominees will include a combination of national, regional and international players that have gone above and beyond in terms of their recent industry contribution,” he continued.
The Sierra Leone Business Awards 2016 is self-sponsored, and will include 25 categories in total, covering the Best Company of the Year, and other categories such as Airline, Telecommunications, Broadcasting, Maritime, Pharmaceuticals, Mining, Banking, Energy, Hospitality and Public Sectors, along with a variety of supporting niches. Also, individuals who’ve demonstrated strong leadership and excellence in both the public and private sectors will be honoured, including lifetime achievement, business leader, business woman, and rising star of the year.
Nominations are opened year round, and free of charge. However, nominations will be assessed by a prestigious panel of experts, selected from within and outside corporate Sierra Leone.
“It’s our intention to make the Sierra Leone Business Awards a leading corporate event for the Sierra Leonean business community, where all captains of industry can gather to recognise and celebrate the success stories and achievements of their colleagues. Given the market challenges that companies are facing at both the national and regional level at the moment, this is a perfect opportunity to remember those companies and individuals that continue to achieve excellence on a daily basis,” commented Rebecca Paulson, Group Vice President of the Sierra Leone Council and Coordinator of this year’s award ceremony.
The event has mobilised a hand full of local and international media partners, including the African CEO, African Ovation, African Enterprise, African Petroleum, WebTV and Sierra Leonean business magazines and local newspapers. A select number of additional personalities will be announced shortly.
“Award ceremonies are important in defining the benchmark for excellence and separating the outstanding achiever from the rest of the group,” added Peter SaSellu. “They also provide recognition to the best performers in the field, while inspiring others to emulate their success. This is exactly what we’re hoping to achieve with the Sierra Leone Business Awards this year.”
The 2016 Sierra Leone Business Awards ceremony will be held in conjunction with the Sierra Leone Leadership Awards; both events holding at the same venue and at the same time.
