The Permanent Mission of Sierra Leone to the United Nations in New York, in collaboration with institutions and organizations in New Jersey, is once again informing all benevolent Sierra Leoneans , members of the community , organizations, businesses and houses of worship that a 40-foot container has been provided to help collect relief supplies for the thousands of homeless and famished victims who survived the deadly mudslide disaster in Freetown , Sierra Leone, that killed over one thousand people on the morning of Monday August 14, 2017.
The container , which was placed at the East Franklin Firehouse at Pine Grove Avenue, Somerset, New Jersey a week ago , is being presently loaded with relief items that have been donated so far and the container will be heading for the Port of Elizabeth , NJ, on Sunday September 17, 2017 for shipment to Freetown.

It has been decided that all drop-offs of supplies at the Firehouse should be done between 5pm to 7pm everyday and weekends. People with huge bulks of supplies who cannot adhere to this schedule should call the coordinators of the relief arrangements at 732-208-6100, 732-763-8981, 732-763-4779 and 732-309-0825 to set up a delivery schedule.
The Mission and the umbrella organization , the Sierra Leone Community of New Jersey ( SLCNJ ), are therefore calling on all and sundry who want to donate relief materials to bring them to the Firehouse to be loaded into the container.
“The immediate needs on this sad occasion include but not limited to food, clothing, shelter and medicines for the thousands of displaced surviving victims, including women and children, ” the Sierra Leone UN Mission appeals.

More specifically, a list of much-needed supplies provided by the Office of National Security, Freetown, has been transmitted to the coordinating team in Somerset by the Head of Chancery of the Permanent Mission of Sierra Leone to the UN in New York, Mr. Alhusine Sesay ( Who and the ambassadors and staff of the Mission are working along with organizations and institutions in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut for assistance to the disaster victims) . The items needed, apart from money, are : blankets, mattresses, hygiene kitsmosquito nets, anti-malaria meds. raincoats, rainboots, heavy duty gloves, megaphone batteries, solar lights, incentives for volunteers, bags of rice, tents, water purifiers, litres of fuel, face masks, protective overalls, camp beds, toiletry kits, sanitary towels in packets, cooking oil in gallons, pulses in bags, wheelbarrow etc.
There will be a manifest to record what you bring in, along with your names and addresses , to ensure transparency and accountability.
Yesterday evening, the Minister Plenipotentiary , Rev. Leeroy Wilfred Kabs-Kanu, the Chairman of the West African Community , Mr. Foday Mansaray and the Chairman of SLCNJ, Mr. Lamin Alharazim volunteered at the Firehouse to help load relief supplies into the container.
The container will be leaving New Jersey on Sunday September 17, 2017. Donors are therefore admonished to bring in their items before that date.
