The Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, made field visits to Abacha Street and ECOWAS Street this afternoon to monitor the ‘Operation Push Back’ exercise that started today, Monday 21st May, 2018.
The operation followed a meeting held by the Mayor with various trader organisations on Saturday 19th May during which she explained the need for the beautification of Freetown and for action to be taken by traders in advance of completion of the much needed markets.
The Chairlady of Abacha Street, Jatu Conteh, said the traders demonstrated strong commitment in clearing the streets this morning, without the intervention of the Metropolitan Police because the traders believe in the plans of the Mayor. Chairlady Jatu assured the Mayor of their dedication in ensuring that Abacha Street is free from street trading from now on.
As she walked the lengths of Abacha Street and ECOWAS street, Her Worship, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, applauded the traders and thanked them for their support of the operation.
