MORE CONDEMNATION POUR IN AS NATION AWAITS BIO’S RESPONSE TO PUBLIC HUMILIATION OF FREETOWN MAYOR

PAOPA ATTACKS MAYOR AGAIN? SALONE IS TAKING A NASTY PATH🇸🇱🇸🇱🎤🇸🇱🇸🇱
By Alex Samura

An attack on the Mayor again is an indication of the gloomy path our body politic is taking under the Bio-led government. It must be stated over and over again that the over-exuberance being exhibited by some members of this administration and their party supporters may wreck the sanity of this nation and even the good development plans President Bio may have in mind. Nearly all presidential appointees to key government offices want to create the impression that they are 100% dedicated to the paopa political ideology. And, in the process of doing so, they brazenly embarrass and intimidate subordinates, take harsh actions and decisions, and even attempt to overstep their bounds of authority.

Really, the public verbal attack against the Mayor, Madam Aki-Sawyer by the Deputy Minister (MLGRD)and his henchmen on Saturday’s Cleaning Day is worthy of total condemnation. The Minister raised hell in accusing the Mayor of sabotaging the cleaning exercise, though the Mayor has always demonstrated her commitment to support the President’s initiatives. (Below is a photo of the Mayor right in a garbage dump site) How can a government official behave in such a rude manner to an elected Mayor on an issue that both can formally and respectably sit down and iron out? Is it because she is an APC mayor? But the position of the Mayor is clear. Spending public funds should be done cautiously and procedurally to prevent fraud and wastage. And this is the governance principle President Bio has always reiterated. Known for being a decent woman, mature and prudent in decision-making, Mayor Aki-Sawyer works in line with the President’s prudential principles of administration. So why this kind of embarrassment?

Hey! A lot of strange and ugly things have happened over the past six months of the paopa-led government of President Bio. Some are really naked threats to the peace and democracy of this nation.

When will Violence, brutality, bullying and Discrimination Against Women and Girls end in Sierra Leone under the SLPP Government?

By IBRAHIM LAKOH

As the ideas of Gender studies and Feminist Movements seek to campaign against the violence of women and promotes the rights of Women including the right to vote and to be voted for, to hold a political or public office, to work and earn equal pay, to own and inherit property, to receive quality education, to enter contracts, to have equal rights within marriage system, and to have professional opportunities that are equal to those for men in any society or country. Throughout its history, the liberal feminist movement has been and continues to be focused on eliminating female subordination “rooted in a set of customary and legal constraints blocking women’s entrance to and success in the so-called public world (2) (Rosemarie, 2017).” Rosemarie explains that this narrative needs to be changed to many issues confronting women around the world and Sierra Leone is not an exception.

Mary Wollstonecraft also wrote “A Vindication of the Rights of Women,” in which she states that women and girls need to be educated just like men so that they can grow up to be moral and autonomous human beings (12-13). In the early 19th. Century, John Stuart Mill and Harriet Taylor (Mill) also wrote about the relevance of women to be more involved in Society’s development or governing. They state that women should be recognised as fully rational and worthy of the same civil liberties and economic opportunities like men (17).”

The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women is an international treaty that was adopted in 1979 by the United Nations General Assembly as a bill of the rights for girls and women around the world has the same ideas. The convention serves as an agreement about equality between boys/men and girls/women. It states that all discrimination and bullying against girls and women must end either in the political, public, and private places. The three Gender Acts of Sierra Leone (the Domestic Violence Act, the Registration of Customary Marriage and Divorce Act, and the Devolution of Estates Act), also shares the same viewpoints of the above convention to end discrimination and bullying against women in Sierra Leone and improve the legal position of women in Sierra Leone.
From the above extracts, women around the world especially those living in Sierra Leone has been subjected to bullying, physical violence, rape, harassment, exploitation, coercion, as well as loss of control, overstepping boundaries; perks of intimacy, excitement, embodied, and subjectivity by many Sierra Leonean men (especially the ruling SLPP Government) living in Sierra Leone.

As a Human Rights advocate and Gender Studies promoter, I condemned the actions and confrontations of the Sierra Leone Government Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Tondoneh to openly abuse and bully the female elected Freetown City Council Mayor, Yvonne Aki-Sawyer who is not under their control or bound to the SLPP Government. The Freetown City Council Mayor was legally and constitutionally elected by the people of the Freetown Capital City, and she is the custodian and principal head of the entire Freetown City municipality. The FCC is a Government of its own, and it is only accountable to the people of Freetown and the Sierra Leone Parliament, not the SLPP Government. In fact according to the Laws of Sierra Leone, the Mayor host the central government in the Capital City including the so-called Deputy Minister.

The Deputy Minister, Mr.Tondoneh is very uncultured and disappointing to the highest degree. I was astounded when I saw and watched the video this so-called Deputy Minister of the SLPP Government about his barbaric, “kamajor” and junta behaviour he displayed today, Saturday, October 6th. 2018, during the cleaning day exercise in Sierra Leone. This SLPP Government has always shown ineptitude to governed Mama Sierra Leone based on the daily, weekly and monthly abuses of human rights, the Constitution, and the International Instruments Sierra Leone been a signatory to. If I remembered, the SLPP Government’s Benghazi boys and supporters had attacked the Mayor three times in Freetown.

I am calling on President Maada Bio to come out from his long silence and put a stop to these gross human rights violations that his SLPP Government and his supporters are doing in Sierra Leone since he came to power. This is complete nonsense and uncalled for when this physical violence is continually happening in the country every day by this SLPP Government.

If these spates of physical abuses, killings, brutalities and barbaric behaviour don’t stop, we the people of Sierra Leone especially the residents of the capital city of Freetown will come out in large numbers and protest against these inhuman treatments against the Mayor and the people of Sierra Leone. 🇸🇱
Below are the videos where the Deputy Minister was trying to bullying and molesting the Constitutional elected Mayor of the Freetown City Council, Mayor, Yvonne Aki-Sawyer.
God bless Mama Salone, and God bless us all🙏🙏
