Dear Kabs Kanu,

I am writing to express my strong disagreement with your recent article, “DO NOT BE FOOLED ABOUT ECOMOG’S MISSION IN SIERRA LEONE: THEY ARE NOT COMING TO REMOVE MAADA BIO.” Your piece is replete with inaccuracies, misrepresentations, and a clear lack of understanding of the complex issues at hand.

Firstly, your assertion that ECOMOG’s mission is not to remove President Bio is not only speculative but also premature. You seem to be privy to information that has not been publicly disclosed. I suggest you refrain from spreading misinformation that could further polarize our already divided nation.

Secondly, your criticism of the APC’s participation in the Tripartite exercise is misguided. Engaging in dialogue and seeking peaceful resolutions is a hallmark of democratic maturity. Your suggestion that the APC should have boycotted the process and resorted to mass demonstrations is reckless and irresponsible.

Thirdly, your claim that the APC has accepted the rigged 2023 election results is a gross misrepresentation. As best as the majority of Sierra Leoneans know, there is a candidate whose name and face was printed on the presidential ballot in the said election, and that person is yet to throw the towel. The party’s participation in the Tripartite was a strategic move to address the electoral discrepancies and work towards a more inclusive and transparent process.

Lastly, your call for the APC to focus solely on the 2028 elections, without addressing the pressing issues of electoral justice and accountability, is short-sighted. The people of Sierra Leone deserve better than to have their hopes and aspirations dismissed so cavalierly.

I urge you to retract your article and engage in more constructive and informed discourse.

In conclusion, let me be clear as I encourage all citizens of Sierra Leone to prepare their banners and placards in readiness to warmly welcome the Stabilization Force upon their deployment in our nation, that our resolve and determination to restore our democracy is unshakable.

As Ben Franklin (2015) puts it, ” “`the struggle for democracy is not a spectator sport. It requires active participation, courageous dissent, and persistent advocacy. Those who would trade liberty for security will soon find they have neither.“` ”

A CONCISE RESPONSE TO MOHAMED WARISAY : LET US WAIT FOR ECOMOG TO COME

By Kabs Kanu

Dear Mr. Mohamed Warisay :

I have read your rebuttal to my article on the deployment of the ECOMOG forces in Sierra Leone.

My article was precipitated by a report in a certain news outlet that ECOMOG are coming to Sierra Leone to overthrow Maada Bio and install Dr. Samura Kamara as President of Sierra Leone. My point in Part 1 was that ,though I am all for Dr. Samura Kamara becoming President, that was not the specific mandate given to ECOMOG and in Part 2 of the article, I reflected lengthily on scenarios that could make the deployment, which is to stabilize the situation in Sierra Leone, turn to something else.

I never said that the opposition has officially accepted the results of the 2023 elections. I said that calling off our boycott of governance and participating in the sham Tripartite ( Which the U.S Ambassador and the SLPP gvernment had repeatedly hammered home was not about a rerun but about strenthening institutions for future elections ) and going on to sign the 80 recommendations ( which fell short of the expectations of the APC as we are learning even from our members who represented us in the tripartite ) was a mistake , which left the impression that the rigged elections had been decided.

MY DECISION

I have taken the quality decision to avoid all responses to rebuttals and all the wild allegations, accusations and insults I have received since posting Part 1 of the series until ECOMOG fully deploys and start implementing the agendas entrusted to them.

In the APC, I belong to no faction or cabal right now . As an Adviser in the party, I belong to nobody. I belong to everybody.

My advice to you all ( And this is my last response for now to this issue ) is let us wait for ECOMOG to come. The truth is around the corner. We shall know the truth when the multinational force is deployed whether it is to effect a change of government and install a new president . Right now, it will be a fruitless and wasteful exercise for us to engage in polemics and unfruitful arguments . The deployment is coming. Let us wait and see . It will decide everything.

My time to respond is coming. Let ECOMOG deploy first and start working. I will make my own full and comprehensive responses to all the rebuttals, insults, lies and misrepresentation of my intentions when ECOMOG starts implementing the mission they were sent to accomplish in Sierra Leone and we get indisputable clarity about whether they came to Sierra Leone to remove the ruling government and install another ( Which is the point of contention here ) .

I love the APC and will continue to wish the party the best but I also owe the party a duty to avoid participating in falsehoods that continue to retard the progress of the party.

Let time vindicate all of us. Let us hold this matter in abeyance until ECOMOG is deployed and we see them implement their mandate.

Thank you very much for your engagement. Let us talk again after the deployment of ECOMOG.

May God bless our nation and save the state.
